Due to the 100th anniversary of football in Japan, a significant change has been made. The removal of draws in football, which football fans around the world occasionally discuss, has been implemented in the Japan League.
DRAW HAS BEEN REMOVED IN THE JAPAN LEAGUE
The league management has introduced a new scoring system that will prevent matches from ending in a draw for the special matches of the 100th anniversary. Accordingly, matches that end in a tie after 90 minutes will be decided by penalties, and points will be awarded accordingly.
THIS RULE WILL BE VALID FOR 1 YEAR
In the new system, the team that wins in regular time will receive 3 points. If the match ends in a draw, it will go directly to penalties. The winning team in penalties will receive 2 points instead of 3. The team that loses in regular time will not receive any points, while the losing teams in penalties will earn 1 point. This rule will also apply to special tournaments as well as league matches. This rule will be valid for 1 year.
The scoring system is as follows:
- Victory in regular time: 3 points
- Victory in penalties: 2 points
- Defeat in penalties: 1 point
- Defeat in regular time: 0 points
