The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, claimed regarding the drone shot down in Ankara that "no instructions came from Erdoğan for two hours." In response, AK Party's Ömer Çelik reacted by saying, "The CHP leadership is acting like a 'disinformation production center.' Moreover, they are trying to criticize our President with this false information."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's claim in Ankara regarding the downed UAV, "The authority to shoot it down is with Erdoğan, and no instructions came for two hours," received a strong reaction from AK Party Spokesperson and Deputy Chairman Ömer Çelik.
"CHP ACTS LIKE A DISINFORMATION PRODUCTION CENTER"
In a statement on his official social media account regarding the issue, Çelik used the following expressions:
"The CHP Chairmanship acts like a 'disinformation production center.' CHP Chairman Özgür Özel signs a new error regarding our political and state life with every statement he makes about domestic and foreign policy. Moreover, he dares to criticize our President with this false information. In the end, the partnership between the CHP Chairman and 'politics of lies' is once again proven.
Our President's political resilience and will to govern our state are appreciated by our nation. The whole world is expressing this as well. The claims of Özgür Özel, which no one outside the CHP Headquarters takes seriously, only serve to multiply the pages of a poor political record."
WHAT DID ÖZGÜR ÖZEL SAY?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in his assessment regarding the downed UAV after arriving in Ankara, stated that the UAV was detected by NATO radars in Turkey through the NATO base in Spain, just 50 kilometers from the ground. Özel said, "The NATO command in Spain is launching F-16s from Konya and Eskişehir. When it enters Turkish airspace, the F-16s do not change, but the NATO commander in Spain transfers control of the aircraft to the Turkish command center."
"NO INSTRUCTIONS CAME FROM ERDOĞAN FOR 2 HOURS"
According to Özel, the UAV was tracked for 2 hours and 5 minutes, and when the fuel of the F-16s in the air decreased, two more F-16s took off from İncirlik, and the UAV was shot down by these aircraft. Özel stated, "Currently, the authority to shoot down an aircraft is with Erdoğan. No instructions came from Erdoğan for two hours. If not, let them say so. We had the opportunity to shoot down the UAV while it was still over the sea. It was not shot down due to the inadequacy of our air forces, but because of the UAV's origin," he expressed.
