The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed the maximum administrative fine on 6 television channels due to broadcasting violations.
MAXIMUM SANCTION FROM RTÜK TO TELE 1
According to the statement made by RTÜK, broadcasting violations were evaluated at the RTÜK Supreme Board Meeting held today. During the meeting, allegations regarding the video recordings allegedly held by Halil Falyalı and the high-level state officials and their families mentioned in these recordings were discussed in the program "Journalists' Table," hosted by Murat Taylan on Tele1.
In the report prepared by the monitoring experts of the Supreme Board regarding the program, it was stated that baseless allegations were made without presenting any concrete evidence, directly targeting the heads of intelligence agencies, diplomatic representatives, and family members of state officials.
The report emphasized that broadcasting activities should be conducted in accordance with the principles of respect for personal rights, impartiality, and the protection of public order, as stipulated in the Constitution and relevant legislation. It was noted that targeting private lives and presenting unverified information to the public as if it were true seriously violates journalistic ethics and broadcasting responsibility.
For this reason, Tele1 television was subjected to the maximum sanction due to the violation of the provision in Article 8 of Law No. 6112, which states, "It cannot be contrary to the principle of respect for human dignity and the privacy of private life, and it cannot contain expressions that are humiliating, derogatory, and defamatory beyond the limits of criticism of individuals or organizations."
PENALTY FOR NEUTRALITY VIOLATION TO SZC TV AND HALK TV
In the "Weekend Main News" program hosted by Damla Doğan Tuncel on SZC TV and the "Weekend Report" program hosted by Gülşah Ekinci on Halk TV, news stories based on "sources" and "acquired information" regarding the attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel were also on the meeting agenda.
The prepared report found that the accuracy of the event was not sufficiently investigated in the news content, that administrative decisions were associated with the attack to create perception, and that the opposing side's views were not included regarding the allegations against the administrators.
In the Supreme Board, SZC TV and Halk TV were penalized at the maximum level for violating the provision in Article 8 of Law No. 6112, which states, "...news that can be investigated within the framework of press professional principles cannot be published without investigation or without being sure of its accuracy."
It was determined that 7 and 5-minute special clips from the films "Another You" and "Kalender Pide," broadcasted on NOW TV on the Disney+ platform, were presented along with tape advertisements stating that the films were available on the platform, and that the emphasis on "Disney+" aimed to attract viewers to the platform without their awareness. For this reason, NOW TV was fined at the maximum level for violating the provision of Law No. 6112, which states, "Confidential commercial communication cannot be included."
PENALTY FOR CHANNELS EXCEEDING TELESHOPPING TIME LIMITS
It was determined that the tele-shopping broadcast times specified in Law No. 6112 were exceeded in the broadcasts on YILDIZ EN and SERHAT TV channels. According to the legislation, tele-shopping broadcasts can last uninterrupted for at least 15 minutes and cannot exceed a total daily duration of 1 hour. Channels found to violate the relevant regulation and cause unfair competition were subjected to the maximum administrative fine.
