It was claimed that a janitor working at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University entered the school's information system and obtained a fake diploma, subsequently being promoted to the position of financial affairs coordinator. The janitor has been suspended, and a comprehensive investigation into the incident has been initiated. In a statement from the university, it was reported that the heaviest administrative sanctions would be applied to those involved in the process.
A staff member working at the Ezine Vocational School of Food Specialization, affiliated with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, allegedly accessed the university's information management system without authorization, presenting himself as a student and obtaining a fake diploma through this means. It was reported that the incident came to light during inspections conducted by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) at the university last week.
OBTAINED A FAKE DIPLOMA, PROMOTED TO COORDINATOR
According to allegations, the suspect, who worked as a staff member at the school, accessed the information management system while cleaning at night. It was claimed that the suspect entered the system using passwords allegedly obtained from the faculty secretary and created his own registration in the Marketing and Advertising department. The suspect is said to have obtained a diploma by appearing to have taken and passed the university entrance exam, and subsequently was promoted to the position of financial affairs coordinator within the institution.
REVEALED DURING INSPECTION
It was noted that the incident was detected during inspections conducted by BTK inspectors at the university last week. While the suspect was removed from duty as part of the investigation, it was recorded that the inspectors seized the university's information management system data. As the records are being examined in detail, it is believed that the number of individuals to be suspended as part of the investigation will increase.
STATEMENT FROM THE RECTORATE: THE HARSHEST SANCTIONS WILL BE APPLIED
The university rectorate also made a statement regarding the issue. It was reported that an authorized and independent investigation commission has been established within the university, and all data and documents are under review.
In the rectorate's statement, it was said, "The harshest administrative sanctions will be applied to those found to have committed irregularities, those who have neglected their duties, and those involved in these processes, and a criminal complaint will be filed with judicial authorities." Additionally, a call was made not to give credence to speculative and guiding statements made based on unverified allegations, and it was emphasized that the results would be shared with the public in an open and transparent manner once the investigation is completed.
