Güneş, who was welcomed with a traditional dance team performance before the seminar, shared his memories of life and conveyed important messages to the participants with his identity as a teacher and experience as a sportsman.
'MY GREATEST ASSET IS MY REPUTATION'
In his evaluations regarding Turkish football, Şenol Güneş mentioned that he is the name with the most matches among Turkish coaches, having participated in 1056 matches, but stated that he does not focus too much on the numbers. Reminding that he has been coaching for nearly 38 years, Güneş expressed that this period has increased even more when considering his time as a player. He noted that the perspective on football and the opportunities were very limited during his childhood, saying, "There were serious deficiencies in education, facilities, and equipment. The perspective on football was also negative. In this environment, I tried to both receive my education and do my job well. I see the results of this today all over Turkey, and even in the world. My greatest asset is my reputation."
'THE MESSAGES WE GAVE WERE REPLACED BY GOSSIP'
Pointing out that football has become more of a gossip topic over time, Güneş stated, "From time to time, the messages we gave were replaced by gossip. The agenda shifted away from football. While the economic side of football is being utilized, there has been excessive drift towards corruption. We are living in a period where more people want to earn easily without producing. As coaches, players, and referees, we could not take ownership of football. There is a need for a new restructuring. Turkish football is our common value; if it erodes, everyone will suffer."
'TRABZONSPOR HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE'
Evaluating the current situation of Trabzonspor, Şenol Güneş emphasized that the club is a brand. He stated that lessons should be learned from the past and that excuses will not lead to progress. Expressing that the saying 'When things go a little well, we say we are very good; when things go poorly, we say nothing will come from us' is not true, Güneş pointed out that Trabzonspor has economic, administrative, social, and technical realities. He stated that players capable of competing at the international level need to be acquired, saying, "We should proceed based on proper planning, not individuals. We need to plan the future by learning from the past without belittling or exaggerating any player. I believe Coach Fatih will do this well. I think Trabzonspor has a bright future."
'I HAD TWO OFFERS, I DID NOT ACCEPT'
Responding to a question about transfer offers he received, Güneş revealed that he received offers from two teams abroad but did not accept them. Stating that such matters have been sensationalized, Güneş said, "If I say I won't work, they will say I will work tomorrow; if I say I will work, they will say the club couldn't find one. Because there is so much gossip, I prefer to remain silent."
