Former Trabzonspor coach Şenol Güneş spoke about Uğurcan Çakır, who transferred from the burgundy-blues to Galatasaray. Reacting to the insults and abusive comments directed at Uğurcan Çakır, Güneş said, "Uğurcan also served us. Uğurcan played for Trabzonspor with love. Former Trabzonspor coach Şenol Güneş met with citizens on the last day of the 'Trabzon Days' event held in Ankara, at the Capital City National Garden, sharing his experiences related to his football career.
''WE SEE THE WARM INTEREST A LOT''
In his speech here, Güneş thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the event, stating, “Ankara is the capital of Turkey, Trabzonspor has been here every year due to the Prime Ministry and Presidency cups, and it has won these cups. Since those days, we have seen this warm interest a lot.”
''TRABZON IS A RICH TREASURE''
Giving examples from his successful career to the guests at the event, Güneş said, “Until the age of 15, we played in national teams without any training or opportunities at a young age. We went to the national team with dedication. They took me because they needed me. They didn’t take me as a favor. When we made mistakes, they criticized us, and when we played well, they praised us. This is the nature of the job, and the city of Trabzon does this as well, which is quite normal. There will be criticisms, to want better. But being obstructive and destructive is of no benefit to anyone. Let me give you an example for today. When you are unsuccessful, making excuses, and when you are successful, getting carried away or going to that level will lead you to failure. In other words, if you try to defend your failure with excuses, and if you take pride in your success, you will harm both the team and the city,” he said.
''UGURCAN SERVED US, THERE SHOULD NEVER BE ABUSE''
Addressing the allegations of abusive chants directed at Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır during the league match played between Trabzonspor and Galatasaray, Şenol Güneş said:
“We should not exclude our people. There should never be abuse. It is not just about what others do to us, but we should not do it to others as well. As Trabzonspor, we have produced good goalkeepers. Uğurcan also served us. Uğurcan played for Trabzonspor with love. He has now reached the stage of leaving. It was not right for him to stay after that stage. I am not in office today. I am not defending or criticizing anyone. We need to look at things more sensibly and rationally. He also made an economic contribution to Trabzonspor when leaving. But he represents us. Now think that he might go to Manchester United or Barcelona tomorrow. We will be proud of him. These do not fit in Trabzon anyway. So should they not go outside? If he is going, is it a crime? What harm does it do to you? On the contrary, it is beneficial.”
