Sergen Yalçın reacted strongly to the penalty question after the Kocaelispor match, stating that the tension in the match was unnecessarily heightened and that the events seemed strange to him.
Beşiktaş's head coach Sergen Yalçın reacted to a penalty question during the press conference held after the Turkish Cup match against Kocaelispor, using statements that would create a stir.
PENALTY QUESTION CREATED TENSION
In the 3rd week of the Ziraat Turkish Cup Group C, Beşiktaş drew 1-1 away against Kocaelispor. Speaking at the press conference after the match held at the Turka Vehicle Inspection Kocaeli Stadium, Beşiktaş's head coach Sergen Yalçın responded harshly to a journalist's question about the penalty situations.
Yalçın stated, "We never loudly express the players who were sent off in derbies, the cards that were not given, the penalties that were not awarded, but you bring up a penalty in a cup match. The match ended 1-1. What benefit is there in saying these things?"
"IT SEEMED STRANGE TO ME"
Addressing the rising tension in the final minutes of the match, the experienced coach indicated that he had difficulty understanding the events. Sergen Yalçın said, "I couldn't understand why the tension rose so much. The Kocaeli fans will support their team, but the behavior of the opposing bench at the sidelines is incomprehensible. We should be respectful to each other."
EMPHASIS ON THE CUP MATCH
Continuing his remarks, Yalçın emphasized that the match was a cup match, stating, "This is not a league match. Kocaelispor has no problems, they have a good squad and I believe they will be successful. The rise in tension seemed strange to me."
