FIRE ESCAPE DEBATES
In the fire that broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya on January 21, 78 people lost their lives. While discussions continue about whether there was a fire escape in the hotel, where some people tried to escape by jumping from a height and others by tying sheets together, a shocking image emerged from Elazığ that seemed to invite disaster.
NO ENTRY OR EXIT FOR THE FIRE ESCAPE
The fire escape of the five-story building located on Efe Street in the University Neighborhood astonished onlookers. It was observed that there was no entry or exit to the fire escape mounted on the building's facade. The ladder, which appeared to be merely a decoration on the wall, drew reactions from those who saw it.
"I FEEL LIKE I'VE SEEN IT IN CARTOONS"
Baki Cengiz, a citizen who wished mercy from God for those who lost their lives at the ski resort in Bolu, said, 'I also wish condolences to those who remain. There are some negligence issues. The state needs to take these into account. I was very surprised when I saw the fire escape in a building in Elazığ. It seems impossible for such a ladder to exist. I feel like I've seen this ladder in cartoons. There is neither an entry nor an exit. If you want to enter the building, you can't. If you look down, you'll fall; there's nothing. Where will you go? You have no other alternative. It simply represents nothing more than iron poles among plain, flat, concrete piles,' he said.
