The Grand National Assembly of Turkey was shaken by a scuffle between CHP and AK Party lawmakers. AK Party Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank stated in a social media post following the altercation that CHP deputies had approached him aggressively, while also targeting CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.
The first statement after the scuffle in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly came from AK Party Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank. Varank, tagging CHP Chairman Özgür Özel in his post, described the tension during the budget discussions in the Assembly and the CHP deputies who approached him.
TENSION AT THE PODIUM
Varank noted that despite Özel listening to the speeches of 15 deputies who took the podium during the budget discussions, he did not listen to Varank's speech and did not stay in the hall.
RIGHT TO REPLY TURNED INTO CHAOS
Stating that he wanted to exercise his right to reply against the provocations, Varank said that as a result of the CHP deputies approaching him, a 10-minute scuffle occurred in the General Assembly. He mentioned that the hall was completely chaotic during the incident and that TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş had to suspend the session.
VARANK'S STRONG MESSAGE
In his post, Varank noted the following regarding the tension in the Assembly: "Özgür Özel, who listened to the speeches of 15 deputies who took the podium during the budget discussions, could not stay in the hall during my speech, probably out of fear.
When I wanted to exercise my right to reply against the provocations, CHP deputies approached me and caused chaos in the General Assembly.
Don't be so afraid of the speech, the right to the podium, and hearing the truth."
