22.08.2024 14:00

Sude Naz A., a 5.5-week pregnant woman who was beaten by her husband in the middle of the street in Manisa, explained what happened. "I have never seen my mother. My aunt raised me. I lost my father 3 years ago. That's why I believed and trusted Yılmaz at a young age. He has previously subjected me to violence many times, but I turned a blind eye each time because we have a child," said the young woman, stating that she will have an abortion.

A 19-year-old pregnant woman, Sude Naz A., who was brutally beaten in the middle of the street in front of her 3-year-old child by Yılmaz Akman (37), with whom she lived in a religious marriage in Manisa, described the moments she experienced, saying, "I have experienced violence before, but I turned a blind eye for my child. But I will have my baby in my womb aborted," she said.

The incident took place on August 15th on Şehit Teğmen Tahir Ün Street in Paşa neighborhood of Akhisar district. Yılmaz Akman started beating Sude Naz A., whom he lived with in a religious marriage for 5.5 weeks, in the middle of the street suddenly. Akman knocked Sude Naz A. to the ground with punches. Akman continued to punch the young woman's head while she was on the ground. This time, he hit her with a metal brush handle that he grabbed. The couple's 3-year-old son witnessed these moments, while the people around watched Akman's violence without reacting for a long time.

"HELP, I'M PREGNANT" SHE SCREAMED

A young man approached Yılmaz Akman to intervene, but when Akman shouted "Leave me alone," he had to step back. Meanwhile, when Sude Naz A. screamed "Help, I'm pregnant" and shouted for help, a passerby tried to stop Akman. The shopkeepers in the area also supported this person and saved the young woman. Then the people around started beating Akman. Police teams, who were dispatched to the scene upon the notification, rescued Akman from the crowd, and these moments were recorded by a citizen with a mobile phone.

While Yılmaz Akman was taken into custody, Sude Naz A. was taken to the hospital. Akman, who was taken to the Akhisar District Police Department for procedures, was arrested by the court the next day. The young woman, who had 3 stitches on her head and was reported to be in good condition, was discharged from the hospital after her treatment.

EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL RECORD

It was announced in a written statement by the Manisa Governorate that Sude Naz A. was placed under protection. Yılmaz Akman, who Sude Naz filed a complaint against and lived with in a religious marriage, was found to have an extensive criminal record. It was stated that he had 18 criminal records and went to sign for judicial control 3 days a week. In his statement to the police, Akman said, "Sude Naz is my religiously married wife. She wanted to separate from me, and we have been separated for a long time. That day, I tried to convince her to go to the village with my brother by car. She agreed from the beginning and got in the car. Then she got out of the car and started shouting 'Save me,' so I got angry and punched her. I continued to beat her with a stick that someone had in their hand. I do not deny my guilt and I accept it."

"I'M VERY AFRAID THAT HE WILL HARM US IF HE IS RELEASED FROM PRISON"

Sude Naz A. described what happened on the day of the incident. Sude Naz A. said, "I have never seen my mother. My aunt raised me. I lost my father 3 years ago. That's why I believed and trusted Yılmaz at a young age. He had previously subjected me to violence many times, but I turned a blind eye each time because we had a child. He used a lot of alcohol and other substances. He promised me that he wouldn't use them. When he didn't keep his promise, I left him. Three days before the incident, I blocked him from my phone and everywhere. He wanted to come home. I didn't let him in. On the day of the incident, I went out to buy clothes for my son and personal hygiene products for myself. I was walking with bags in my hands. It turns out Yılmaz was following me. When my son saw him, he shouted 'Dad' and ran towards him. I followed him so that a car wouldn't hit my child. If my child hadn't run to his father, maybe he wouldn't have seen us. At that moment, Yılmaz came to me and tried to take me to the village. When I didn't want to go, he started punching me. I fell to the ground, and the bags in my hands flew everywhere. While I was being beaten, I shouted for help, saying 'Help, I'm pregnant,' but no one helped. Everyone watched me being beaten for a long time. I was more upset about the fact that the incident happened in front of my child and what he experienced at that moment than the beating I received. I got pregnant at the age of 16. I didn't want an official marriage because I was afraid that Yılmaz wouldn't be able to take care of our child since he didn't work, and we wouldn't be able to make a living. I am 5.5 weeks pregnant, and I will have my baby aborted," she explained. Sude Naz A. stated that she wants Yılmaz Akman, with whom she lived in a religious marriage, to receive the harshest punishment and not be released from prison, saying, "I'm very afraid that he will harm us if he is released from prison."

"NO ONE DID ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE MARRIED"

Emel Toptan (46), the owner of the tea house where the incident took place, also said, "They came arguing, and the woman was insulting and cursing the man. After that, the man attacked her. No one did anything because they thought they were married. Everyone was afraid. They thought they would make peace, and then we would be in trouble. I couldn't do anything against male power anyway. However, I was very saddened by a woman being subjected to violence in that way," she said.
