The AK Party Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu responded to the Republican People's Party (CHP), which brought up the decision made regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu during his tenure as Minister of Interior. Soylu stated, "I would have considered every possibility, but I never would have thought that you would reference me to defend yourselves as the CHP. The actions in question (espionage) occurred after the June 2019 elections."

The CHP Central Executive Board met online yesterday. CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel made evaluations after the MYK meeting.
Speaking about the "espionage" investigation, Deniz Yücel brought up the decision made during Süleyman Soylu's term as Minister of Interior, stating, "There is a document signed by the then Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu here, which states that a decision was made not to grant an investigation permit due to the investigation initiated by the Ministry of Interior. It says, 'The authority to conduct all kinds of examination and research on the electronic database and infrastructures of the Metropolitan Municipality and its affiliated organizations is granted to the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, and the public reaction against the authorization of inspectors for copying the database and infrastructure has led to a step back by the Prosecutor's Office due to the criminal complaint made and the lawsuit filed in the administrative court and the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Interior.' Of course, they have squeezed the phrase 'stepping back' here, but I continue, 'It states that the mentioned process is annulled with all its consequences, effective from the date it was initiated, and that no database and infrastructure was copied and no inspection was conducted.' As a result, a decision is made regarding 'not granting an investigation permit for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, as confirmed by the court decision.' In other words, this allegation of data copying is completely refuted by the document written with the signature of the then Minister of Interior." he stated.
"ESPIONAGE IS THE ACTIONS THAT OCCURRED AFTER THE JUNE 2019 ELECTIONS" Former Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu responded to Yücel's allegations, saying, "I would consider every possibility; however, I never thought that you would reference me to defend yourselves as the CHP. You are young men. Do not tarnish your politics. An administrative court was appealed regarding the unlawful assignment made by the Mayor of Istanbul, who came to power in the 2019 local elections, for the illegal copying of İBB data during the early days of the March-June period; the unlawful action was halted by the court at that time. Following this, the Mayor of Istanbul withdrew and canceled the unlawful assignment; since the issue was resolved, the investigation initiated by the Ministry of Interior was naturally closed due to lack of subject. Additionally, do not forget that after this date, the Ministry appointed a deputy chairman to İBB until the next election. The situation you are trying to defend puts you in a more difficult position. Because it is understood from today's trial that the actions subject to the trial (espionage) are actions that occurred after the June 2019 elections. My sadness is this: The ability of a single center that has lost its mind and morality to turn everyone, including politicians, into trolls. All of it is documented." he said.
