MHP Group Deputy Chairman Erkan Akçay condemned the slogans directed at former HDP MP Leyla Zana during the Somaspor-Bursaspor match. Akçay stated, "She is a person whom the late leader Alparslan Türkeş referred to as 'my daughter,' period."
In the TFF 2nd League match played in Soma between Somaspor and Bursaspor, a group of Bursaspor fans targeted former HDP MP Leyla Zana with sexist and abusive chants from the stands. The slogans shouted during the match continued for a while.
RESPONSE TO THE SLOGANS FROM DEM PARTY
There was a reaction from the DEM Party to these slogans targeting Zana. Pervin Buldan, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Van MP, reacted to the language used in the stands, stating, "Neither football can be defended with insults and curses, nor can values. We reject this language targeting Leyla Zana. Sports should produce respect, not enmity. Human dignity comes before everything."
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also stated, "Necessary judicial and administrative investigations are being conducted regarding the incidents. In this context, tape analyses and similar examinations are being carried out regarding the events that occurred. Authorized institutions are working on this issue."
MHP'S AKÇAY: OUR LEADER CALLED HER 'MY DAUGHTER'
The slogans rising from the stands also drew a reaction from the MHP. MHP Group Deputy Chairman Erkan Akçay took the floor in the General Assembly and said the following:
"I strongly condemn the abusive chants directed at Leyla Zana. In 1992, the HEP delegation, of which Leyla Zana was a member, visited the MHP and our leader Alparslan Türkeş and presented a report. During that meeting, our leader addressed Leyla Zana as 'my daughter.' It was widely discussed at that time. She is a person whom our leader Alparslan Türkeş addressed as 'my daughter,' period."
