MINISTER YERLİKAYA ANNOUNCED THE NAMES OF OUR MARTYRS
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared a message on his social media account regarding the attack. Yerlikaya announced that 2 police officers were martyred and 2 police officers were injured, one of them seriously. In his message, Minister Yerlikaya stated: "An armed attack has been carried out against the İzmir Balçova Salih İşgören Police Station. Unfortunately, after this heinous attack, our 1st Class Police Chief, Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir, and our Police Officer Hasan Akın have been martyred, while our Police Officer Ömer Amilağ has been seriously injured and our Police Officer Murat Dağlı has been lightly injured. I pray for God's mercy on our heroic martyrs; I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The suspect of the incident, E.B. (16), has been apprehended. Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban provided the following information: "This is a busy street. One of our citizens was lightly injured in the clash. We are very sorry. Our police organization and our nation's condolences. We are investigating the incident from multiple angles. The suspect is a 16-year-old high school student and lives on this street. So far, he has no criminal record. There are no records of any arrests or statements. There are a large number of shotgun shells on the road. A shotgun that his father bought 10 years ago was used."
