The attacker, a 3rd-year high school student, began firing at the police station with his father's shotgun. 1st Class Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir, who resided in the upper floor lodge of the police station, and Martyr Police Officer Hasan Akın from the Salih İşgören Police Station were martyred. Police Officer Ömer Amilağ, who was on duty at the same police station, was seriously injured in the neck. Police Officer Murat Dağlı, who was assigned to the Balçova Public Order Bureau, was also injured in the leg.
THE POLICE CHIEF DESCENDED AFTER HEARING GUNSHOTS

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç shared the following statement on his social media account: "I condemn the armed attack on the Salih İşgören Police Station in Balçova, İzmir. I pray for God's mercy on our police officers who were martyred in the attack, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. An immediate judicial investigation has been initiated by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and 2 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors and 6 Public Prosecutors have been assigned.
