In an attack on a police station in Balçova, İzmir, carried out by a 16-year-old with a shotgun, 2 police officers were martyred and 2 others were injured, one of them seriously. In a statement regarding the attack, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said, "I pray for God's mercy on our heroic martyrs; I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The suspect, E.B., has been apprehended. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident."

A police station located in the Çetin Emeç neighborhood of Balçova district in İzmir was attacked with a shotgun by an assailant identified as 16 years old. In the attack, 2 police officers were martyred, and 2 others were injured, one of them seriously.

Upon receiving the notification, health teams were dispatched to the scene. It was reported that there were martyrs and injured in the attack. The injured were taken to the hospital by ambulances. It was learned that one of the injured was in serious condition.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who made a statement regarding the attack, said, "An armed attack has been carried out against the İzmir Balçova Salih İşgören Police Station. Unfortunately, as a result of this heinous attack, our First-Class Police Chief, Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir, and our Police Officer Hasan Akın have been martyred, while our Police Officer Ömer Amilağ is seriously injured, and our Police Officer Murat Dağlı is lightly injured. I pray for God's mercy on our heroic martyrs; I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The suspect of the incident, E.B. (16), has been apprehended. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident," he said.

HOW DID THE ATTACK OCCUR?

According to initial information obtained; the 16-year-old assailant was detained some time ago for a crime. The assailant, who was taken to the Salih İşgören Police Station, was released after a while. Claiming that he was treated poorly, the assailant opened fire on the police station with a shotgun belonging to his father. In the first shot, police officer Hasan Akın, who was standing at the door, was martyred. Hearing the gunfire, First-Class Police Chief Muhsin Aydemir was martyred when he went downstairs in response to the gunfire. One police officer was also seriously injured in the attack.
