The stress of Istanbul traffic spilled over this time in Mecidiyeköy, inside an IETT bus. The tension in the bus traveling on the Şişli-Şirintepe line never dropped for a moment. The driver behind the wheel first engaged in a verbal duel with the drivers outside, then, unable to contain his frustration, directed his reaction towards his own passengers. Those tense minutes, where the defense of "I'm bringing a hot car" mixed with the criticism of "you just need to press a button," were captured second by second by a passenger's cellphone camera.
What happened on the İETT bus in Şişli, Istanbul made people say, "Enough is enough." The driver, who was arguing with other drivers in traffic, then got into a confrontation with passengers as he approached the stop. The moments filled with mutual insults and interesting defenses were captured in real-time by a passenger's cellphone camera.
HE EXPRESSED ANGER TOWARDS DRIVERS IN TRAFFIC
The incident occurred last Monday around 7:00 PM in the Mecidiyeköy area. The driver of the bus with route number 27T, which was making the Şişli-Şirintepe trip, reportedly lost control after getting angry at drivers who did not give way. The driver, shouting at other drivers from inside the vehicle, began to yell and insult, saying, "You see the big bus, but you don't give way!"
THE "DO NOT OPEN DOOR" DISPUTE ESCALATED INTO A FIGHT
As the bus began to approach the stop, the impatience of the passengers led them to head towards the door before the bus even entered the stop area, escalating the tension. When the driver stated that he would not open the door outside the stop as per the rules, he faced the passengers' reactions. When the doors opened, the argument moved inside the bus. In response to the driver's statement, "I will come to your feet, you have to wait at the stop," female passengers replied, "You can't yell at me."
HE SOUGHT SUPPORT FROM PASSENGERS
As the argument intensified, the driver defended himself by saying that this was his natural tone of voice, stating, "I'm not yelling, this is how I talk." When a passenger told him, "Don't be rude," he turned to the other people in the vehicle and asked, "Is what I did rude?" However, he did not find the support he expected.
THE "I'M BRINGING A WARM BUS" DEFENSE
In response to the passengers' criticism, "You just have to press a button from where you are, why are you making it difficult?" the driver defended himself with the following words, reminding them of the service he provided:
"I don't understand you, friends; I'm bringing you an empty bus, I'm bringing you a warm bus."
THE "SUPERVISOR IS WRITING A FINE" RESPONSE
During the argument, when a female passenger pointed out that other buses opened the door, the driver reminded her that he would be fined for violating the rules: "When I open the door there, the supervisor says, 'Why are you opening it there?' and they write a fine." Those tense moments, which ended with the passenger saying, "You're overthinking it, man," once again highlighted the breaking point of stress in Istanbul traffic.
