In an incident in England, a 12-year-old boy took control of a car after his mother fainted at the wheel. The child managed to stop the vehicle, which was traveling at 96 kilometers per hour on a dual carriageway, while maintaining his composure, preventing a potential disaster.
The incident occurred on the A40 road near Herefordshire. Nicola Crump, 37, suddenly realized she was feeling unwell while on her way to a Christmas market with her youngest child. Crump, who said she felt very weak, informed her son that she was about to faint and tried to pull the car over to the side of the road.
HIS FOOT STAYED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR ACCELERATED
However, the woman lost consciousness before she could completely stop the vehicle and put it in park. At that moment, her foot remained on the gas pedal, causing the car to accelerate to about 60 miles (97 km/h) on the dual carriageway.
During this time, 12-year-old Zac Howells, who was sitting in the front seat, reached for the steering wheel without panicking. Zac directed the car onto the grassy median in a controlled manner, managed to reduce its speed without crashing into the barrier, and then called the emergency number 999.
EVEN IMPRESSED THE POLICE
The police teams who arrived at the scene were impressed by the calmness the young boy displayed during the emergency call. West Mercia Police announced that they would invite Zac to the station to award him a certificate for his bravery and composure.
"I was very scared, but I knew I had to do something," Zac said, explaining that he called for help when he noticed his mother was breathing.
"HE LITERALLY SAVED OUR LIVES"
Nicola Crump, who was taken to the hospital, was diagnosed with low blood pressure and referred to cardiology for further tests. Mother Crump described her son's heroism with the words: "He literally saved our lives. He thought quickly and stayed calm. If he hadn't done this, we might not be alive today."
In the incident, both mother and son escaped uninjured, while the vehicle sustained minor damage.
