The 33rd edition of the world's largest sports event, the Olympic Games, will begin today. The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, hosted by the capital of France, Paris, will take place on the Seine River for the first time, instead of a traditional stadium. The opening ceremony of the games, in which a total of 10,500 athletes from 204 countries will compete, will start at 19:30 (GMT). In the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Turkey will be represented by a total of 102 athletes, 54 of whom are women and 48 are men, in 18 different sports.
The Olympics, one of the greatest events in the history of sports, is about to begin. The 2024 Summer Olympics, which will take place in the capital of France, Paris, will be held between July 26th and August 11th.
OPENING CEREMONY ON THE SEINE RIVER The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, hosted by the capital of France, Paris, will take place on the Seine River. The ceremony, in which 10,500 athletes from 204 countries will compete, will start at 19:30 (GMT+3). Boats carrying the athlete delegations will parade along the Seine River from under the Austerlitz Bridge to the Lena Bridge, covering a distance of over 6 kilometers. The parade route will feature cultural presentations and views of Paris' iconic structures. It is expected that approximately 300,000 people will attend the opening ceremony, which will be held outside of a traditional stadium for the first time in Olympic history.
LOGO AND MASCOT The Paris 2024 logo combines three simple yet powerful symbols: the gold medal, representing sports; the flame, representing the Olympic and Paralympic Movement; and Marianne, representing France. SPORTS At the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes will compete in 48 disciplines within 32 sports. The games will take place in a total of 34 different venues, and medals will be awarded in 329 categories. While karate and baseball, which were included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, have been removed from the program, breakdancing will be included in the Olympics for the first time in Paris 2024. The sports to be contested in Paris 2024 include athletics, shooting, badminton, basketball (3x3 basketball, basketball), equestrian (dressage, show jumping, eventing), cycling (BMX freestyle, BMX racing, mountain biking, road cycling, track cycling), boxing, breakdancing, gymnastics (artistic, rhythmic, trampoline), fencing, football, wrestling (Greco-Roman, freestyle), golf, weightlifting, handball, hockey, judo, canoeing (slalom, sprint), skateboarding, rowing, table tennis, modern pentathlon, rugby, water sports (swimming, marathon swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming), surfing, archery, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, climbing, volleyball (beach volleyball, volleyball), and sailing.
102 ATHLETES FROM TURKEY WILL PARTICIPATE Turkey will be represented by a total of 102 athletes, 54 of whom are women and 48 are men, in 18 different sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Turkey will compete in athletics with 16 athletes, wrestling with 11 athletes, sailing, judo, boxing, and swimming with 8 athletes each, shooting with 7 athletes, taekwondo and gymnastics with 5 athletes each, archery with 4 athletes, fencing and modern pentathlon with 2 athletes each, and table tennis, badminton, cycling, weightlifting, and rowing with one athlete each. Only the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team (13) will compete in team sports on behalf of Turkey.
TURKISH FLAG TO BE CARRIED BY BUSENAZ AND METE In the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Turkish flag will be carried by national boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli and national archer Mete Gazoz. National athletes Busenaz Sürmeneli and Mete Gazoz, who won gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, will be at the forefront of the Turkish delegation during the opening ceremony. Turkey will pass in 191st place during the parade.
