According to the Revaluation Rate announced in November, it has been confirmed that traffic fines will be increased by 25.49% starting from January 1, 2026. With the updated tariff, the lowest fine will rise to 1,246 TL, while the highest fine of 58,207 TL will be imposed for drifting violations.
After the Turkish Statistical Institute announced the inflation data, the tax and penalty increases to be applied in the new year have become clear. The revaluation rate to be applied to traffic fines and many tax and fee items has been determined as 25.49% and published in the Official Gazette. While it is expected that President Erdoğan will use the authority to reduce the increase in the Motor Vehicle Tax, the increase in other items has come into effect.
It has been stated that over 1 trillion TL is expected to be generated from traffic fines in 2025, bringing discussions about fines becoming an important source for the budget. With the increases to be made in the new year, it is aimed to further increase this revenue, while variable speed signs and radar applications have become a subject of criticism in the public eye.
RED LIGHT VIOLATION 2 THOUSAND 741 TL
With the action plan expected to come to the Parliament in the first week of January, it is foreseen that the penalty amounts for some violations will be further increased, while according to the current tariff planned to be applied throughout 2025, the penalty for red light violation will be 2 thousand 741 TL, and the penalty for driving without a license will be 23 thousand 433 TL. Not wearing a seatbelt, illegal parking, not having traffic insurance, not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle, and violating the following distance will be penalized with 1246 TL. The penalty for using a mobile phone while driving and driving a vehicle without inspection will be applied as 2 thousand 741 TL.
HEAVIEST OFFENSE DRIFTING
Drivers who drift will be fined 58 thousand 207 TL. The penalty for violating the emergency lane and exceeding the speed limit by more than 50% has been set at 11 thousand 633 TL. Those who exceed the speed limit by 30% to 50% will face a fine of 5 thousand 661 TL, while those who exceed it by 10% to 30% will be fined 2 thousand 743 TL. The penalty for driving with an expired license will be 4 thousand 695 TL, while using a vehicle with flashing lights will be penalized with 11 thousand 633 TL.
