The 28.8-kilometer Southern Ring Road, which started construction in Adana in 2019 and is planned to be opened in 2025, has not been completed. As a result, one of the bridges built for the road has started to be used as a hayloft by citizens.
The Southern Ring Road Project, which started in Adana in 2019 and is planned to be completed in 2025 with a budget of 2 billion 72 million 350 thousand TL, has still not been completed despite the years that have passed.
THE CITY'S NEVER-ENDING ORDEAL
The project, which is approximately 28.8 kilometers long, aimed to reduce the traffic load on the Adana D-400 highway and allow heavy vehicles to transit without entering the city. However, the project could not progress at the expected pace, especially due to expropriation issues. The road, which was said to significantly relieve city traffic, has become the city's never-ending ordeal at this point.
"THE BRIDGE HAS BECOME A HAYLOFT"
The project, carried out by the General Directorate of Highways, aims to connect from the south of Şakirpaşa to the Adana Organized Industrial Zone and the Ceyhan road. However, despite 7 years having passed since its construction began, the road is still not completed. One of the most striking images is seen at the bridge piers built for the road. While some of the concrete blocks left idle for a long time have been abandoned to decay, some of the bridge piers have started to be used as haylofts by citizens.
"OUR CROPS WERE REMOVED FOR THE ROAD"
Abdülhamit Bilgili, whose field was expropriated for the road, said, "We had crops here, they removed all of them because a bridge was going to be built. It has been like this since then."
Citizen İbrahim Akdağ stated, "It has been like this for almost 8 years. It is a nice area, but we do not know when it will be built. We hope it will be completed as soon as possible. The conditions here are not good, and the environment is bad. At least if there is some work, these areas will improve. Since there is no work, they have utilized the area under the bridge. They are using the bridge piers as haylofts. The citizens are also utilizing the piers located at the bottom in the same way," he said.
