The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry updated the list of companies committing food adulteration and fraud, announcing 34 new products to the public. During inspections, horse meat was detected in 9 products in Adana and Mersin, while gelatin was found in yogurt, and improperly mechanically separated meat was used in beef sausage and chicken meatballs.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has updated its disclosure list for companies that threaten food safety and engage in adulteration and counterfeiting. In the latest inspections, 9 of the 34 new products added to the list were found to contain meat from single-hoofed animals (horses, donkeys, mules, etc.), while gelatin was detected in yogurt and irregularities were identified in sausage.
SINGLE-HOOFED SCANDAL IN MERSIN AND ADANA
In the list announced to the public by the ministry via the address "guvenilirgida.tarimorman.gov.tr," 34 new food items were included under the categories of 'Foods That Could Endanger Health' and 'Foods Subject to Adulteration and Counterfeiting.' As a result of the inspections, it was revealed that 9 of these products, 12 of which were directly capable of endangering health, contained meat from single-hoofed animals. It was reported that 5 of the enterprises where single-hoofed meat was detected operate in Mersin, and 4 in Adana.
GELATIN IN YOGURT, MECHANICALLY SEPARATED MEAT IN SAUSAGE!
The irregularities caught on the ministry's radar were not limited to meat products. Adulterations misleading consumers and risking health were also identified in dairy and delicatessen products:
- Gelatin in yogurt: Gelatin used as a thickening agent was detected in a product marketed by a company under the "yogurt" label.
- Irregularity in beef sausage: Mechanically separated poultry meat was found in a product sold as 'heat-treated beef sausage' in the Yüreğir district of Adana.
- Fraud in chicken meatballs: It was recorded that mechanically separated poultry meat was used contrary to regulations in the 'chicken meatball' product of an enterprise in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara.
It was emphasized that inspections and disclosures carried out to protect public health will continue without interruption.
