The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation against journalist Ertuğrul Özkök on charges of "insulting the President" due to his statements during a live broadcast he attended.

In a written statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that an ex officio investigation was launched against Özkök due to his statements during a live broadcast he attended.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that Özkök was charged with "insulting the President."

The 79-year-old Özkök, during a live broadcast on a YouTube channel where he was a guest, had talked about the collapse process of the Francisco Franco regime, which he said he had witnessed during his student years in Spain.
