US President Donald Trump explained why the military operation against Iran, which he had previously announced was suspended, was canceled. Trump stated that all preparations for the operation had been completed and said that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE requested that the attack on Iran be stopped. Emphasizing that the Gulf countries favor a diplomatic solution, Trump stated that an agreement had been reached with Tehran regarding the Strait of Hormuz and that he expected a compromise to be reached on the nuclear program as well.
US President Donald Trump made striking statements about the process of canceling the planned military operation against Iran.
"SAUDI ARABIA, QATAR, AND THE UAE ASKED ME TO CANCEL IT"
Trump, stating that all preparations for the attack were complete, said the plans were suspended hours before the operation was to take place.
"Everything was ready. A major attack would have taken place almost at this very hour," Trump said, adding that they reassessed the process after the request from allied countries.
Trump stated that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar wanted the attack on Iran to be canceled, saying, "But when the allies ask us to cancel the attack, you have to say, 'Wait a minute, let's take a look.'"
"I ASKED THE CROWN PRINCE, HE SAID 'THEY PREFER A DEAL'"
Trump, who said that regional countries support a diplomatic solution rather than a military conflict, also described his conversation with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Trump said, "I asked the Prince, 'Do you want us to do this, or would you prefer a deal?' He said they would much prefer a deal over an attack."
"NEGOTIATIONS WITH IRAN BEGIN TODAY"
Trump stated that contacts with Iran would resume, saying, "Negotiations with Iran will begin today. We are currently discussing the format of the negotiations." The US President also expressed that an agreement had been reached regarding the Strait of Hormuz and that he expected a consensus to be reached on the nuclear program.
HE HAD SUSPENDED THE ATTACK ON IRAN
In his statement the previous day, Trump had also announced that a consensus had been reached on the main outlines of a deal with Iran, and therefore the planned military operation was suspended. Trump said the agreement aimed to keep the Strait of Hormuz fully open and eliminate Iran's nuclear threat, and he also stated that Israel supported this approach.
