In the friendly match Galatasaray played against Rennes, Victor Osimhen did not wear the captain's armband given to him and instead handed it to Yunus Akgün. While that moment became a topic of discussion, some fans linked this action to a possible departure.
Galatasaray hosted French side Rennes at RAMS Park as part of their pre-season preparations. In the match that ended 3-3, not only the football on the pitch but also Victor Osimhen's action regarding the captain's armband became a hot topic.
HE GAVE THE ARMBAND TO YUNUS AKGÜN
Abdülkerim Bardakcı, who started the match as captain for the red-yellow team, handed the captain's armband to Victor Osimhen as he was substituted off in the 74th minute.
However, the Nigerian star, instead of putting the armband on his own arm, extended it to his teammate Yunus Akgün. While Yunus Akgün wanted Osimhen to wear the armband, the star striker did not accept this request. As a result, Yunus Akgün wore the captain's armband.
FANS WERE DIVIDED
Osimhen's action caused a wide repercussion on social media. While some Galatasaray fans evaluated what happened as an ordinary choice, some fans recalled the recent transfer rumors and interpreted this attitude as a sign of separation.
OKAN BURUK HAD PREVIOUSLY EXPLAINED
In his previous statement, Galatasaray Head Coach Okan Buruk had expressed that he wanted to see Victor Osimhen among the team captains.
