Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during his visit to Germany. Wadephul stated at the joint press conference held with Minister Fidan, "If Turkey wants to join the EU, Germany will be a reliable and friendly partner. Turkey is a central country in many areas. Therefore, it is clear that strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Turkey is in our interest."
During his official visit to Germany, Foreign Minister Fidan held a meeting with his German counterpart Wadephul. After the meeting, Minister Fidan held a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
"THE BASIC PROBLEM IS THAT THE PROCESS IS NOT PROGRESSING"
Minister Fidan stated at the meeting, "There is no problem with the criteria-based assessment in Turkey's EU membership process, nor can there be. The fundamental problem here is that the process is not progressing, and the chapters are not being opened. At this point, we have had the necessary discussions. Our expectation is that the EU will reopen the chapters and advance the relationship with Turkey as a candidate country on the most normal ground possible," he said.
"STABILITY IN SYRIA IS IMPORTANT FOR US"
Minister Fidan emphasized the importance of regional events, stating, "The cessation of the war in Ukraine, the implementation of the peace plan in Gaza, and stability in Syria are important for us."
