Fluctuations in exchange rates and oil prices continue to affect fuel prices. Following the price increases after the Israel-Iran war, the historic discount made on June 26 provided some relief to citizens.
BACK ABOVE 50 TL
With this discount, a price decrease of 2 lira 68 kuruş for gasoline and 4 lira 6 kuruş for diesel was implemented, marking the largest single discount on record. However, the positive impact of this development did not last long. Just two days later, a new increase of 1 lira 14 kuruş was applied to diesel prices. Thus, the price per liter of diesel rose above 50 TL again.
HOW ARE FUEL PRICES CALCULATED?
In Turkey, the prices of gasoline and diesel are determined based on the duty-free refinery price. This price is calculated based on the CIF Mediterranean product prices published in the Mediterranean-Italian market and the daily exchange rate. The ÖTV and EPDK share are added to the duty-free price, and then VAT is calculated to form the final refinery sales price. Therefore, the volatility in global markets directly reflects on pump prices in the domestic market.
NEW FLUCTUATIONS MAY OCCUR
Due to the frequently changing prices recently, citizens have become more attentive to the timing of their fuel purchases, while industry representatives indicate that new fluctuations may occur in the market.
