An explanation has come from Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who drew criticism for his Teknofest post made during the hours when two individuals attempted to rape a woman in Beyoğlu and two young girls were brutally murdered in Fatih. Minister Yerlikaya stated, "We will not allow those who attempt to inflict violence on women and threaten their peace to breathe easily. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who remained silent about the attempted rape and brutal murders in Istanbul and shared a "Teknofest" post, has broken his silence. In his statement, Minister Yerlikaya said, "We will not allow those who attempt to inflict violence on women and threaten their peace to breathe easily. We are fighting against those who threaten our peace and criminal organizations day and night, 365 days a year, and we will continue to do so."

FIRST AN ATTEMPTED RAPE, THEN BRUTAL MURDERS

Turkey was shaken yesterday by a series of events in Istanbul. In the morning hours, a woman in Beyoğlu narrowly escaped being raped by two individuals. As the footage hit the headlines like a bomb, in the evening hours, a person named Semih Çelik killed 19-year-old Ayşenur Halil and half an hour later, beheaded 19-year-old İkbal Uzuner and threw her head over the Edirnekapı walls.

YERLIKAYA'S CONTROVERSIAL "TEKNOFEST" POST

During the hours of horror in Turkey, the 'Teknofest' post made by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on his social media account drew criticism. Minister Yerlikaya finally broke his silence. Visiting the Istanbul Police Department, Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that they received information about the incidents and that they would continue to fight against the criminals.

YERLIKAYA: WE WILL NOT ALLOW THOSE WHO ATTEMPT TO INFLECT VIOLENCE ON WOMEN TO BREATHE EASILY

In a statement on his social media account, Yerlikaya said: "I visited our Istanbul Police Department and received a briefing on the recent incidents. As the Ministry of Interior, our fundamental principle is the peace of our country. The foundation of our country's peace is based on women's fundamental rights and freedoms, and zero tolerance for violence against women. We will not allow those who attempt to inflict violence on women and threaten their peace to breathe easily. Together with our Gendarmerie, Police, and Coast Guard, we will continue to be the guarantee of peace."

"WE HAVE INCREASED OUR PERSONNEL IN ISTANBUL BY 7,000"

For this purpose, we have increased our team numbers day and night for the peace and security of Istanbul, and we continue to do so. After the personnel and vehicle reinforcements that joined our Istanbul Police in the first half of 2024, we have increased our personnel by approximately 7,000 in Istanbul. We have doubled our team numbers during the day and at night. Lastly, we have also provided 2,380 personnel and 174 vehicles to our Istanbul Police during this period. The increase in our personnel is aimed at ensuring the peace and security of our cities, neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, both day and night.

"WE WILL CONTINUE OUR FIGHT AGAINST THOSE WHO THREATEN OUR PEACE"

Our security forces are at the service of our nation at all times. Our esteemed nation can be assured: We are fighting against those who threaten our peace and criminal organizations day and night, 365 days a year, and we will continue to do so. I wish God's mercy upon our girls Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner, who fell victim to a brutal murder, and I extend my condolences to their grieving families. I also wish a speedy recovery to the girl who was harassed by two individuals in Beyoğlu."
