Saffron, known as the most expensive spice in the world, is sold for 500 TL per gram in Amasya, where it is produced. Officials from the Amasya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry warned against counterfeit versions of this product, which is referred to as 'red gold' and can even be grown in pots.

The saffron plant, whose production is increasing every year in Amasya, draws attention with its economic value and areas of use. Sefa Kılıç, the Head of the Plant Production and Plant Health Department of the Amasya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that the saffron produced in the city is considered "red gold" and is cultivated on an area of 23 decares.

Kılıç said, "The saffron plant is evaluated as 'red gold' in the places where it is produced. One gram of dried saffron is obtained by collecting 150 flowers. It is the most expensive spice in the world. It is sold for 500 TL per gram."

Kılıç mentioned that this plant, which is produced on 23 decares in Amasya, is used in the food, textile, perfume, and pharmaceutical industries, stating, "Because the saffron plant is very valuable, there is counterfeiting. Since it is one of the leading locations for cultivation in our province, saffron can be safely purchased from our producers. It is not very laborious to grow. It can be grown in fields, gardens, and even in pots," he said.

Participating in the saffron harvest held in the village of Ayvalıpınar in the Göynücek district of Amasya, Governor Önder Bakan advised farmers to try alternative products. Reminding of the abundance of onions and the cherry crop affected by agricultural frost, Governor Bakan said, "This year, approximately 12 thousand decares of onions were planted excessively. Our farmers did not give up on it in any way due to their traditional habits. Friends who turned to alternative products were somewhat more comfortable. Some of our regions had only focused on cherries. Unfortunately, during the process we experienced due to agricultural frost, problems arose because they did not include alternative products in their baskets."

The harvest program was also attended by AK Party Provincial Chairman Galip Uzun, Göynücek District Governor Osman Demirgül, and other officials.
