Parking fees in Istanbul have reached record levels; hourly rates exceed 400 TL, and daily fees surpass 1,000 TL. With public parking facilities being insufficient, drivers are forced to rely on high-cost private parking lots.
With the rapid increase in the number of vehicles in Istanbul, the need for parking has reached a critical point. In the megacity where nearly 6 million vehicles are circulating in traffic, drivers are finding it increasingly difficult to find parking spaces every day. Especially the fees for private parking lots have turned into a serious financial burden for drivers.
FEES IN PRIVATE PARKING LOTS ARE BURDENSOME
According to a report by NTV, the hourly fees for parking lots owned by private businesses have recently ranged from 200 to 400 TL. Moreover, when the parking duration exceeds one day, especially in luxury neighborhoods, the fees can exceed one thousand TL. It has been observed that prices are even higher in central districts such as Beşiktaş, Kadıköy, Şişli, Beyoğlu, and Sarıyer.
PUBLIC PARKING LOTS ARE INSUFFICIENT
Although public parking lots provide some relief for drivers, they fill up quickly due to high demand. In this situation, citizens looking for alternatives find themselves turning to private parking lots that offer services at exorbitant prices.
PRICES ARE UNCERTAIN, THERE'S NOT EVEN A SIGN
Another striking issue is the lack of price transparency. Many private parking lots do not have any signs or information regarding their fee schedule. This situation leads to both surprise payments and a loss of trust for drivers.
