One of Turkey's important ski resorts, Kartalkaya, experienced a fire disaster on the night of January 21, resulting in the death of 78 people, including 36 children. Of the 28 people detained in connection with the incident, 19 were arrested while 9 were released. The fire, which started on the restaurant floor of the hotel, was first noticed by the chef.
"WE TRIED TO WAKE PEOPLE WITH OUR OWN VOICES"
In the statement of detained chef Faysal Yaver, he said, "I did not come across a fire extinguisher during the time it took to get outside after seeing the fire. Therefore, I had no chance to intervene with the extinguisher. Yusuf Usta went to the reception floor. Other colleagues were trying to call the authorities on the phone. During the time it took to get outside after seeing the fire, there was never a fire alarm, warning mechanical sound, or a water sprinkler to extinguish the fire that worked. We only tried to wake people with our own voices and means. My only duty is to prepare breakfast from night until morning. I have no culpable action in this incident. I am just one of those who saw the fire first. We were the first to start shouting. I tried to help the hotel staff and the remaining people as much as I could." it was learned.
