A woman who applied to the Neurology Clinic at İzmir Tire State Hospital with complaints of dizziness was allegedly forgotten in the MRI machine for a full hour. After being trapped inside the machine for several minutes, the woman received only a "Get well soon" response from the hospital staff following her terrifying experience.

Esra Akgüneş, a mother of three living in Izmir, applied to the Neurology Outpatient Clinic at Tire State Hospital yesterday with complaints of dizziness. After the doctor's examination, Akgüneş was given an MRI appointment for the same day.

TRIED TO MAKE NOISE BY PUNCHING THE DEVICE

At 11:45, the staff informed Akgüneş that the procedure would take 10-15 minutes. However, despite a long time passing, Akgüneş remained inside the device. Feeling unwell in the machine, Akgüneş panicked when she realized she had been forgotten and began to scream and punch the device to make her voice heard.

THE RESPONSES SHE RECEIVED MADE HER SAY "NO WAY"

After no one came, Akgüneş managed to get out of the device by her own means. After leaving the MRI room, she explained the situation to a secretary she happened to encounter, and received the response, "Get well soon, tell the chief physician about the situation." Following this, Akgüneş called the 184 Health Ministry Communication Center to file a complaint and then went to the hospital's Chief Physician's office to report the incident. After the Chief Physician's officials said they would "look into the matter," Akgüneş was sent home.

"WHAT IF I HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED?"

Unable to overcome the trauma she experienced, Esra Akgüneş stated that she would not let this negligence go and said, "I came with complaints of vertigo, and I stayed in the place they said would take 15 minutes for nearly an hour. My eyes were closed because my head was spinning. When I realized I had been forgotten, I was horrified. What if I had a heart attack from panic and died there? Who would be held accountable for this at Tire State Hospital? This is irresponsibility. I will pursue my rights to the end to find those responsible, and I am filing a complaint."

The Izmir Provincial Health Directorate announced that an investigation has been initiated regarding those responsible for the incident.
