In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 32 people were detained. Due to the managers identified as having placed bets in favor of the rival team, the case was classified under match-fixing, and the possibility of relegation was raised for 13 clubs.
In the betting investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, club managers from the Super League and 1st League were detained in simultaneous operations carried out at 33 different addresses in 10 provinces centered in Istanbul.
32 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY
Out of 33 suspects, 32 were captured and taken to the police, while one fugitive suspect is being sought. It was reported that the detained individuals placed bets on the opposing team's victory in the matches of the teams they manage.
BETTING TURNED INTO MATCH-FIXING
The operation, previously conducted through referees, players, and coaches, has now reached managers. The prosecutor's office, which is scrutinizing clubs in the Super League and 1st League, has officially turned the investigation into a "match-fixing" case due to the direct influence of the suspects on the outcomes of their own matches, in violation of Article 11 of Law No. 6222.
TFF WILL WAIT FOR THE JUDICIARY
Betting against their own teams directly binds not only individuals but also clubs according to Article 56 of the Disciplinary Regulation (FDT). According to the relevant article, if match-fixing is detected, the penalty for the teams involved is very clear: they will be relegated to a lower league. Recently, the Federation ruled to wait for the decision of the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the investigation into betting and influencing the outcome of the match related to the Ankaraspor-Nazillispor match.
LOOKING INTO MONEY TRAFFIC
The Federation is expected to continue its practice of 'waiting for the judicial decision.' The former Chief Public Prosecutor who initiated the illegal betting investigation, the new Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, recently stated, "Betting concerns individuals. To establish match-fixing, we need to look into the money traffic." The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting the investigation, will particularly scrutinize the suspects' "money traffic" and if any irregularities are detected, will refer them to the court for match-fixing.
RELEGATION RISK
According to the findings obtained during the operation, it has been learned that the clubs affiliated with the managers identified as engaging in match-fixing may face relegation penalties.
