In the Kozan district of Adana, one of the leading places for the production of persimmons, the first exports to Germany were made this season with a drying facility established in the village. The dried persimmons, which are sold in the garden for prices ranging from 40 to 60 TL, were sent to both the domestic market and for export at prices between 500 and 650 TL.
In the Kozan district of Adana, one of Turkey's important agricultural production centers, many families are engaged in the production of the persimmon, also known as the "heavenly date." Although the yield decreased due to the agricultural frost experienced last spring, a total production of 33 thousand tons was achieved this season on approximately 16 thousand 500 decares of land in Kozan.
PRICE PER KILO RANGES BETWEEN 40-60 TL IN THE GARDEN
Producers in the district, where about 20% of Turkey's total persimmons are produced, sold their fruits in the garden for prices ranging between 40 and 60 TL per kilo. A large portion of the persimmons, which are in demand both domestically and internationally due to their taste and aroma, was allocated for drying and chips.
FIRST EXPORT WITH THE FACILITY ESTABLISHED IN THE VILLAGE
Zeki İnce, who established a date drying facility in the village of Karabucak, a rural neighborhood of Kozan, made his first export of approximately 1 ton of heavenly date chips to Germany this year. İnce explained the stages of production, stating that they collected from their own and surrounding gardens on an area of 16.5 decares.
"THE PRICE OF DRIED PRODUCT RANGES BETWEEN 500-650 TL"
İnce stated, "The products collected from the gardens are washed and then arranged in crates for drying. Our products dry within 21 hours. We started production in Kozan Karabucak Neighborhood, and we were the first to achieve this in the villages. This year, there was a decrease in production due to agricultural frost, but we are producing with a capacity of 15 tons in the season. We dried approximately 6 tons of product. We made our first export to Germany. The price of dried products ranges between 500-650 TL. It has been about a month of work, and we have provided employment for 20 people. After this, we are also considering dried oranges."
REQUEST FOR THE NAME "KOZAN DATE" FROM PRODUCERS
Furkan Kütük, who produces dates on 110 decares of land in Kuyluk Neighborhood, stated, "We want the Kozan region to be recognized for its dates. The taste is different. There are varieties for drying, fresh, and chips. Molasses is also made. We want this product, which has yellow and black varieties, to be known as Kozan date."
Kozan District Agricultural Director Mutlu Karataş and his team also conducted inspections of the production areas in the field, while it was noted that they continue to support farmers in technical matters regarding the development and maintenance of date trees in the region.
