The couple Odileta and Paschoal de Haro, who fell in love during their adolescence and were married for exactly 74 years, passed away on the same day, just 10 hours apart, in a scene reminiscent of a movie.
The couple, who met by chance in a city square in Brazil, died on April 17, just two days after their wedding anniversary, in a meaningful coincidence. 92-year-old Odileta took her last breath at 7 AM, while 94-year-old Paschoal passed away in the same room at 5 PM.
Odileta, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, was cared for by her husband for many years. However, in 2023, Paschoal was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. According to relatives, upon hearing this news, Paschoal began to pray to God to "die on the same day" because he did not want to be separated from his beloved wife. This prayer was answered shortly after their 74th wedding anniversary.
The couple's love story began in the 1940s in a town square northwest of São Paulo. At just 18 years old, Paschoal accidentally dropped a small chain he was playing with onto the arm of 15-year-old Odileta. This small accident led to laughter between the two young people and the beginning of a love that would last a lifetime.
The couple, who married in 1951, had six children. While Odileta took care of her family as a housewife, Paschoal worked in a fabric store. Over the years, their children grew up and started their own families, and the couple experienced the joy of seeing their grandchildren's children as well.
Not only serving their own family but also the community, the couple established a charity in their city that distributed baby clothes to single mothers and food to those in need. Their son-in-law Luciano Leal described them, saying, "They were always full of love and ready to help everyone, regardless of race or social status."
Regarding the couple, who celebrated their last wedding anniversary with their families, Luciano said, "This is truly a love story worthy of a movie. They always said they would die together, and so they did. They lived, loved, and succeeded in life with their passion for each other. The beautiful family and values they left behind will live on as their legacy forever."
