Despite the repaired barriers on 19 Mayıs Boulevard in Samsun, police teams imposed fines on pedestrians attempting to cross from the middle of the road. Many citizens who jumped over the barriers and entered the traffic were fined 993 TL for the offense of "crossing the vehicle road while a pedestrian crossing is available."
Despite the presence of pedestrian crossings at the Mecidiye Underpass and Inner Junction on May 19 Boulevard, between Cumhuriyet Square and Bulvar AVM in the İlkadım district of Samsun, some citizens continue to risk traffic safety by crossing the road by climbing over the metal barriers in the middle of the road. Although the previously damaged barriers have been renewed and reinforced with metal welding due to the increase in violations, inappropriate crossings could not be prevented.
993 LIRA FINE IMPOSED
Traffic police from the Provincial Police Department, which initiated an operation targeting pedestrians, imposed a fine of 993 TL on many individuals who did not comply with the rules, despite the presence of a crossing within 100 meters, in accordance with Article 68/1-B of the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918.
"I GOT A FINE FOR CROSSING FROM A RESTRICTED AREA..."
S.A., who was fined for using the pedestrian crossing, said, "They fined me for crossing from a restricted area. There is a pedestrian crossing nearby. I crossed from here. I don't even look at how much the fine is," expressing his discontent to the police.
AUTHORITIES WARN
Authorities emphasized the importance of using pedestrian crossings for safety and warned that behaviors that disregard the rules invite accidents.
