On December 28, Saturday, the DEM Party delegation that met with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı also visited MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli in the Turkish Grand National Assembly yesterday. FIRST STATEMENT AFTER THE MEETING WITH BAHÇELİThe historic meeting, which lasted 40 minutes, created a significant public reaction, while one of the members of the delegation, Ahmet Türk, made noteworthy statements to journalist İsmail Saymaz after the meeting. When asked, "How was your meeting with Bahçeli? How did he welcome you?" Türk replied, "He really welcomed us very well. His human relations are very different, close, and warm. He had an attitude of openly expressing his thoughts. Some people are trying to pull this process in a different direction. Our only concern is this; it is the reconstruction of the 1000-year-old Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood. The friendship between Turks and Kurds will determine the future of the Middle East and will lead to a democratic future. In a period where we do not know where the Middle East will evolve, Turks and Kurds must embrace each other again. It is necessary to create a brotherly common future again. This is our concern. Besides this, we are not thinking about the municipality or the elections. Of course, when a democratic constitution and an understanding that embraces the Kurds emerges, there is no issue for us. We have no bargaining with anyone. "THIS IS A FIRST STEP, WE DO NOT KNOW HOW THE SECOND AND THIRD WILL BE"Our bargaining is to make democracy permanent in this country. There is a need for this; no one knows what will happen tomorrow in the Middle East. Today, there is a Kurdish population of 50 million in the Middle East, and all of them look towards Turkey, seeing themselves as a part of Turkey. This needs to be made permanent. In other words, unnecessary discussions are being made; we are still at the beginning of the process. There is no clear situation about what will happen and how it will proceed. There is no bargaining with anyone, but the fact is that this time, the developments are a process that forces Kurds and Turks to be together, a process that makes it necessary; we have no other chance, we should not bring up very extreme issues like before because it turns into a bargaining, there is no relation to the elections, there is no bargaining. Over time, it will be shared very openly with the parliament, the public, society, and the parties. This is a first step; we do not know how the second and third steps will develop," he responded. "PEOPLE ARE SHOCKED WHEN THEY SEE BAHÇELİ'S ATTITUDE"Ahmet Türk also touched upon Bahçeli's attitude, saying, "He had a very good attitude. When you see Mr. Bahçeli's attitude, people are shocked; you can also notice that he is sincere. It is time for Kurds and Turks to sit down and solve their own problems. Very painful and difficult processes have been experienced. At a point where there is a division and tension in society, and at a time when all the powers of imperialism are attacking the Middle East, we need to solve our own issues ourselves. He showed the same perspective and approach," he stated. WILL THEY MEET WITH ERDOĞAN?In response to the question of whether they will meet with President Erdoğan, Türk said, "Of course, our goal is to meet with all political parties. But of course, some may not meet. That is not our issue. If someone does not give an appointment, there is nothing we can do," he expressed. "THE KURDS ARE THE MOST SECULAR PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST"In response to the question, "Will you meet with the terrorist organization PYD?" Ahmet Türk said, "No, there is no such thing at this stage, but we would like Turkey to establish a friendly relationship with the PYD. It is very clear that the Kurds are the most secular people in the Middle East. Embracing the Kurds will enable Turkey to be an effective actor in the Middle East," he concluded.
