A ceasefire has been declared amid days of clashes between Druze groups and Arab tribes in the city of Suwayda, Syria, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a scandalous threat. Reminding of the airstrikes carried out on Suwayda, Netanyahu stated, "I hope we won't have to do more; it largely depends on what Damascus will or will not do."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that they are carrying out intense attacks on Syria and threatened to expand the attacks "depending on the stance of the Damascus administration."
NETANYAHU'S THREAT TO SYRIA
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office published a speech made by Prime Minister Netanyahu during his visit to an Ultra-Orthodox Jewish (Haredi) Israeli army unit in the Jordan Valley of the occupied West Bank with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Netanyahu claimed that they are operating in Syria and that they "must disarm" southwestern Syria.
"I HOPE WE WON'T HAVE TO DO MORE"
Netanyahu, who claimed that they would not allow Syria, which disregards sovereignty rights, to turn into a "second Lebanon for Israel," also argued that they are responsible for protecting the Druze in Syria. Stating that they are carrying out intense attacks on Syria, Netanyahu threatened to expand the attacks on Syria with the words, "I hope we won't have to do more; this largely depends on what Damascus will or will not do."
CLASHES IN SUEIDA
Small-scale armed clashes began in Suweida two days ago after Druze groups seized some vehicles belonging to Bedouin Arab tribes. As the parties mutually kidnapped and detained some civilians, the clashes intensified, resulting in at least 30 deaths and 100 injuries.
In response, units affiliated with the Ministries of Defense and Interior had dispatched a large number of soldiers and military reinforcements to the region to stop the clashes. In attacks on the convoys belonging to the Ministries of Defense and Interior, 18 soldiers were killed, and 9 soldiers were taken hostage.
ISRAEL HAD CARRIED OUT AIR STRIKES
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz defended the attacks on southern Syria with the words, "We will not allow harm to the Druze; Israel will not stand by." Following this statement, Israel had carried out a total of five airstrikes near the convoys of units belonging to the Ministries of Defense and Interior stationed around Suweida province. Today, Syrian Defense Minister Major General Merhef Ebu Kasra announced that a ceasefire had been declared in Suweida.
