After the announcement that there would be savings in many areas of the public sector, the Audi brand vehicle used by the President of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, became the subject of news and was criticized by some circles. After the issue occupied the agenda for a long time, the vehicle was returned.

Following this development, Erbaş, who was in the spotlight, stated in a statement, “Look, until this year, we used the official vehicle of the previous President Mehmet Görmez. We did not buy a single new vehicle. We were stranded on the road a few times with that vehicle. Once, while coming from Konya, the tire burst while we were driving fast, and the driver skillfully managed to save us. At that time, an Audi was purchased; I was using the same Audi 8 years ago when I was a rector, but they thought it was too much for the President of Religious Affairs,” he said.

With this statement, Erbaş drew attention, and now he has come to the agenda with the rent he pays for his three-story villa in Bilkent, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Ankara. While high rents are being discussed in Turkey, it was revealed that the monthly rent for Erbaş's 450 square meter luxury triplex residence is 975 TL. However, according to the announcement published in the Official Gazette on December 26, 2024; starting from 2025, the rental prices for public housing in the country were restructured. Following this regulation, with a 44% increase in housing rents in 2025, Erbaş's housing rent rose to 1,404 TL.

According to a report in Sözcü, when looking at the prices of similar villas in Bilkent, both with real estate agents and online, it is seen that the sale price is more than 30 million TL, while the rent is around 110 thousand TL. This amount corresponds to 9 retirement salaries or 7 minimum wages. Even if they pooled their money without touching the salaries of 5 minimum wage earners, they could only cover one month's rent. In addition to 6 close bodyguards, Erbaş's villa is also specially protected.
