The printing job given to a company by Eyüpsultan Municipality was completed and delivered on December 29, 2023. However, the company owner, Yılmaz Kurt, could not collect his receivable of approximately 4 million lira from the municipality, so he resorted to legal means a month ago. Within the legal process, Eyüpsultan Municipality was asked to provide a declaration of assets. The owner of the creditor company, Yılmaz Kurt, was shown 'the property numbered 216 in Ağaclık Neighborhood' as a debt settlement, and it was stated that it could be put up for auction and sold. After Kurt's investigation, it was revealed that the declared land was a cemetery. Yılmaz Kurt expressed his outrage at the cemetery offer, while the land, which also includes historical graves, was captured in aerial footage.
"THEY SHOWED THE CEMETERY AS A DECLARATION OF ASSETS"
The owner of the company to whom Eyüpsultan Municipality offered cemetery land as a debt settlement, Yılmaz Kurt, stated, "I did a printing job for Eyüpsultan Municipality. I delivered the work. When I requested payment, they were reluctant to pay. So, I went to collect it through my lawyer. I asked Eyüpsultan Municipality to provide a declaration of assets to initiate enforcement proceedings. They showed me this cemetery as a declaration of assets. They said, 'You can put this cemetery up for auction and collect your payment that way.' What am I supposed to do with this cemetery now? It is a historical cemetery. There are graves inside. I have a receivable of about 4 million. From now on, we will put the cemetery up for sale through enforcement," he expressed.
"THERE ARE 100-YEAR-OLD GRAVES ON THE LAND"
Kurt, who stated that there are historical graves in the cemetery, said, "I have been having discussions to collect my money for about a month. They have not responded to me. In the end, I asked them to provide a declaration of assets. Actually, Eyüpsultan Municipality has a lot of assets, but they only showed me this cemetery. They said, 'This cemetery corresponds to your receivable.' My lawyer spoke with the Deputy Mayor of Eyüpsultan and the relevant people. We did not receive any feedback regarding the payment. That’s why we resorted to this path. I will put this cemetery up for sale through enforcement; if I can, I will collect my receivable, but what will I do with this cemetery? There are villagers and people resting here. How will I clear this cemetery? I will request evacuation, but can they evacuate? The municipality says I can sell it, but let’s say I sold it, what if it doesn’t sell? But what will we do with the graves here? The municipality needs to respond to this as well. We would receive very bad reactions from the public; there are 100-year-old graves here. I cannot remove the graves anyway," he said.
