As the hours approach Turkey's entry into the new year, the crowd began to increase on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu, one of the busiest points in Istanbul. THERE'S NO ROOM TO STEPWhile police teams took intense security measures in the area, there was almost no room to step on the street. Thousands of people flocked to Taksim Square and Istiklal Street, which are popular spots for New Year's celebrations. CELEBRATIONS ARE MONITORED BY OVER 15 THOUSAND CAMERASSecurity measures were taken around Taksim Square, Istiklal Street, and its surroundings by the City Security Management System (KGYS) teams affiliated with the Istanbul Police Department to ensure the safety of those wishing to enter the new year in Taksim. Thanks to over 15 thousand cameras monitored from the Mobile Command Center deployed in Gezi Park as part of the New Year's precautions, Taksim Square and Istiklal Street are being monitored in real-time. Helicopters patrolling every corner of the city, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and personnel's body cameras also send real-time images to the command center here. In this way, teams can respond quickly to negative situations and intervene immediately. "WE WANT THEM TO ENTER THE NEW YEAR IN PEACE AND SECURITY"Selami Yıldız, the Istanbul Provincial Police Chief, visited the teams on duty at Taksim Square. Speaking to the press here, Yıldız said, "In order for our Istanbul to enter the new year in peace and security, our entire provincial police organization has made plans 24/7. We have taken security measures in all 39 districts, including Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kadıköy, Bakırköy, and Fatih. We want our citizens to enter the new year in peace and security with 10,458 teams at 1,016 points, spreading our 55,225 personnel over 24 hours. I also wish you a happy new year in the meantime. With health, peace, and security, hopefully, thank you," he said.
