After the CHP's decision not to send a delegation to the commission going to İmralı, a group attacked the CHP district headquarters in the İpekyolu district of Van. The group tore down and broke the party signs.
CHP has clarified its stance regarding the visit of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to İmralı. Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir announced that the party will not send a representative to İmralı.
ATTACK ON CHP'S DISTRICT BUILDING IN VAN
Following CHP's decision, a group stormed the CHP district building in the İpekyolu district of Van. The group tore down and broke the party signs. The group's statement, "We do not want CHP, which does not support the process of a Turkey without terrorism, here," drew attention.
"OUR NATION IS NOT SATISFIED"
On the other hand, Emir expressed that they do not find it appropriate for CHP to provide a member to the commission delegation, stating, "As CHP, we advocate for the resolution of the Kurdish issue within a historical consistency. While some deny the existence of Kurds, we are a party that courageously acknowledges this issue. We are supporters of the steps to be taken for peace until the end. From now on, we will be in the commission with the determination to build a terrorism-free and democratic process. At this stage, practices that mortgage the national will continue. No progress has been made in political imprisonments, and our politics have been harmed by new political cases. Political cases have blocked our democracy. While steps should be taken to ensure our internal peace, our nation is not satisfied with the entire issue being reduced to a visit to İmralı. Instead of just five deputies going to the island, it is possible to conduct an easier process by utilizing technological means. The society is not convinced that this insistence will contribute to a solution in a process where essential, easy first steps such as the removal of trustees and the implementation of Constitutional Court and European Court of Human Rights decisions have not been taken," he said.
FIRST STATEMENT AFTER CHP'S DECISION: LET'S USE TECHNOLOGY
Following the decision, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir made a statement in the TBMM with CHP commission members.
Key points from Emir's speech are as follows:
"We believe that today's meeting should be held openly in front of the public. As CHP, we have always said that the issue known as the Kurdish problem can be solved through discussion. For this reason, we contributed to the commission, but when a closed decision was made, we decided that it would not be appropriate for us to participate. As CHP, we have always stated that we aim to solve the Kurdish issue through democratic means for historical consistency. Just as yesterday, today we stand by sincere steps to be taken for peace until the end. As a necessity of our responsibility to our nation, we will be in the commission. The characterization of the visit to İmralı as a historical crossroads is not suitable for the purpose of the commission's establishment. Instead of just five of our deputies going to the island without even being the president of our commission, it is possible to use technology for an easier method. We would like to remind you; today, CHP is facing a closure decision that everyone is waiting to hear about. Despite everything, our party continues to remain in the commission with the hope of democracy and solution. Our party has the power to bring peace, democracy, and justice to our country."
REACTION FROM DEM PARTY
The first reaction to CHP's decision not to go to İmralı came from the DEM Party. DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit stated in her announcement, "We are contributing to the resolution of this issue. History is made by brave people; those who dare write it, and those who stand on the right side. History will write those who take responsibility and those who do not."
