Çankırı stated, "According to the municipal law, collecting trash in the districts belongs to the metropolitan municipality. However, not only are they unable to collect trash in the districts, but there is also a fundamental problem at the waste collection centers in the districts. Additionally, there were issues with the workers collecting the trash. And what happened? There was such a bad image in İzmir that some of the fires that broke out today were due to the trash. The industrial waste, excavation waste, and household waste all create accumulated gas in the end. And at the end of the day, with the temperature rising, even the smallest cigarette butt falling or a welder working there led to fires in Gaziyemir, Buca, and Narlıdere today. And these were fires caused by trash."
"SUCH A PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED IN AK PARTY MUNICIPALITIES" Çankırı continued her remarks as follows: "As the People's Alliance, we are two municipalities in İzmir; Menemen and Aliağa Municipality. Such a thing has not happened in either Menemen or Aliağa. In fact, there was absolutely no trash on the streets in Aliağa Municipality's own collection center. They have also managed to eliminate this at their own collection center. In fact, if the district municipalities care a little, they can solve this problem even within their own districts. But of course, the metropolitan municipality has a huge irresponsibility here. And in the end, they tried to shift this irresponsibility onto us. But neither the people of İzmir nor we, the central government, are giving any concessions on this. Because we do not shy away from being in close contact with the Republican People's Party's Metropolitan Municipality and its deputies at every point we are responsible for.
