Spanish Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International Pedro Sanchez has given the strongest international support to the New Party founded under the leadership of Ozgur Ozel. In his letter to Ozgur Ozel, Sanchez described the founding of the New Party as "a bold step for democracy" and announced that the Socialist International will resolutely continue close cooperation with the New Party.
Spain's Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International, Pedro Sanchez, issued an official congratulatory and supportive message for the New Party established under the leadership of Ozgur Ozel. In his message, Sanchez highlighted the recent political developments in Turkey and described the foundation of the New Party as a "courageous step."
"WE FOLLOWED YOUR BOLD MOVE WITH ACTIVE SOLIDARITY"
Addressing Ozgur Ozel as "Dear Ozgur," Spain's Prime Minister Sanchez emphasized critical processes such as the arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu and the invalidation of CHP congresses. Stating that they closely monitor the struggle for democracy and the rule of law in Turkey, Sanchez made the following assessments:
"You had to face great difficulties with the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, the detention of many other mayors elected by your party, and finally the 'absolute nullity' invalidating all democratic decisions of previous congresses. You faced all these difficult moments with courage and always prioritized collective interests over personal ones."
"THE DECISION FOR A NEW PARTY IS HOPEFUL AND MOTIVATING"
Sanchez, the President of the Socialist International, expressed understanding that the decision to establish the New Party was made in line with the demands of both elected representatives and the party base, and stated that this decision became inevitable at a point where fundamental principles were violated. Sanchez stated, "As a strong leader, you felt it was time to make a breakthrough since fundamental principles were violated. Undoubtedly, this courageous decision gives hope to and motivates all people fighting for our common values."
COOPERATION PLEDGE FROM THE SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL
In the conclusion of his message, Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez underlined global solidarity and stated that as an organization, they will continue to work with the New Party, concluding his remarks as follows:
"As previously decided, we as an organization will continue to work closely with you in this new, hopeful endeavor. We wish the New Party great success."
