The second installment of Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) payments, which concerns millions of vehicle owners, has entered its final week. Vehicle owners must complete their payments by Friday, July 31, to avoid late payment interest.
The last week has begun for the second installment payments of the Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV). Payments concerning millions of vehicle owners must be completed by the end of business hours on Friday, July 31.
HOW ARE PAYMENTS MADE?
Collected twice a year in equal installments in January and July, the MTV can be paid through the Digital Tax Office (dijital.gib.gov.tr) and the mobile application of the Revenue Administration (GİB).
Payments can also be made through authorized tax collection banks, tax office cashiers, and PTT branches.
Citizens who wish to transact via the Digital Tax Office can make payments without entering a password, using their license plate, Turkish ID number, and either the registration date or the ownership document date.
WARNING AGAINST FAKE SITES
Authorities reminded citizens who will make payments online to use only the "gib.gov.tr" address or the official websites of banks to avoid any grievances.
WHO IS EXEMPT FROM MTV?
Vehicles registered in the name of individuals with 90 percent or more disability are exempt from the MTV. Specially equipped vehicles and some vehicles belonging to foreign diplomatic personnel are also outside the scope of the tax.
Additionally, vehicles registered in the name of public administrations, social security institutions, municipalities, village legal entities, local government unions, and the Red Crescent are also not subject to the MTV.
MTV AMOUNT VARIES BY VEHICLE
The Motor Vehicle Tax varies according to the vehicle's age, type, engine displacement, engine power, value, and weight.
For automobiles with engine displacement up to 1300 cc and a value exceeding 541 thousand lira, the annual MTV is:
- 6,902 TL for 1-3 years of age,
- 4,807 TL for 4-6 years of age,
- 2,693 TL for 7-11 years of age.
For vehicles with engine displacement between 1301-1600 cc and a value exceeding 541 thousand lira, the annual MTV is determined as:
- 12,028 TL for 1-3 years of age,
- 9,012 TL for 4-6 years of age,
- 5,220 TL for 7-11 years of age.
