In the Şarkışla district of Sivas, the municipality's mortuary project could not be implemented at two different locations—first due to an electrical transformer, then due to parents' reactions to its proximity to a school. Finally, construction began in a neighborhood area, which drew backlash from local residents. Citizens stated that the project would negatively affect children and that having weddings and funerals in the same area would cause problems, demanding the mortuary be relocated to another site.

The gasilhane planned to be built between neighborhoods by the municipality in Sivas's Şarkışla district has sparked reactions from citizens. Residents of Yıldırım Neighborhood, who oppose the construction started there, demand that the project be relocated to a different spot.

FIRST TWO LOCATIONS ABANDONED

According to the information obtained, Şarkışla Municipality initially held a tender for constructing a gasilhane in an area near the cemetery. However, due to an electrical transformer in the area, construction could not begin. Later, the plan for a location near a school was also abandoned after parents objected. Finally, the start of construction among residential buildings in Yıldırım Neighborhood has led to objections from local residents.

"HOW CAN WE PLAY DRUM AND ZURNA WHEN THERE IS A FUNERAL?"

Resident Karahan Şimşek stated that weddings and engagements are held on the street in the area, saying, "We have young people in the neighborhood who will get married. If a funeral comes here during a wedding, will we greet it with drum and zurna? This place is a parking area. Every house's door faces this plot. A gasilhane should not be built here." Şimşek also claimed that the municipality has insisted on constructing at this spot despite abandoning previously determined areas.

"HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN PASS THROUGH THIS ROAD EVERY DAY"

Resident Oktay Çat noted that the gasilhane is located along the school route, arguing that children would encounter mourning people every day.

Çat stated that they have conveyed their objections to the municipality and the district governorship, demanding the project be canceled.
