COVID-19 Continues To Impact Eurasia

Novel coronavirus infections and deaths continued their upward trend across Eurasia and Central Asia on Wednesday.

Ukraine

Ukraine registered 3,497 new virus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 184,734, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 3,705 as 63 more people died from the virus, while 1,769 people recovered for a total of 81,670.

Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said with 366 more people contracting the virus, the total count climbed to 53,051, while the total number of fatalities rose to 443 with one new death.

The official data showed that another 157 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 49,224, which approximately translates to a 93% recovery rate.

A total of 3,384 people are going through medical treatment in the country.

Georgia

Georgia's Prime Ministry said in a statement that there were a total of 4,181 cases in the country, with 227 additions over the past day.

The death toll has reached 24, with one more fatality.

Recoveries have reached 1,643 as 69 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours.

Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan confirmed that 88 people were diagnosed with the virus over the past day and registered cases totaled 45,630.

The Health Ministry said the number of people who recovered from the virus reached 41,904, with another 108 recoveries over the past day.

Over 2,400 people are receiving treatment and a total of 1,063 have lost their lives to the coronavirus in the country.

Kazakhstan

The Health Ministry in Kazakhstan confirmed that the total number of cases rose to 107,450, with 76 additions over the past 24 hours.

With the recovery of 155 patients, the total number of recoveries reached 102,219. The death toll rose to 1,707 as four more people died from the disease.

The virus has claimed more than 971,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December. The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 31.65 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 21 million, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University. -
