Kasım Bulgan, a student of the Nursing Department at Korkut Ata University, had to take a cold shower due to the conditions in the dormitory and suffered a heart attack, resulting in his death. Adem Yücel, the President of the Eğitim İş Union's Osmaniye Branch, stated that the issues regarding the dormitories have been ongoing for years.
The President of the Eğitim İş Union Osmaniye Branch, Adem Yücel, stated, "22-year-old Kasım Bulgan, a final year nursing student at Korkut Ata University, had to take a cold shower on the morning of September 27 because there was no hot water in the dormitory, and then he collapsed and suffered a heart attack. Despite the resuscitation efforts of his roommate, who is also a nursing student, he could not be saved and passed away at the hospital he was taken to."
Yücel made a statement in front of the Osmaniye Cebelibereket KYK Male Student Dormitory.
Yücel, who said, "22-year-old Kasım Bulgan, a final year nursing student at Korkut Ata University, had to take a cold shower on the morning of September 27 because there was no hot water in the dormitory, and then he collapsed and suffered a heart attack. Despite the resuscitation efforts of his roommate, who is also a nursing student, he could not be saved and passed away at the hospital he was taken to," added that "the ambulance team requested help from students on the way, which painfully reveals the inadequacy of emergency health services."
"DORM CONDITIONS ARE INHUMAN"
Yücel recalled that students held a protest in the dormitory garden on the night of September 29, stating that the problems in the dormitory have been ongoing for years. Yücel said, "The non-functioning elevators, hygiene issues, internet outages, lack of security cameras, and accumulation of garbage in the corridors threaten the right to life of the students."
Yücel reported that images taken in the dormitory showed sewage overflow and dirty water flowing into the rooms, stating that the state and the dormitory management have failed to fulfill their cleaning and maintenance obligations.
"AIR CONDITIONERS ARE COMING FROM CHINA"
Yücel indicated that in their meeting with the dormitory director, they learned that the central air conditioning system had malfunctioned during the trial phase and that new units had been ordered from China. He also mentioned that there are serious malfunctions in the hot water system and expressed that they will keep the issues in the dormitory on the agenda until the authorities fulfill their responsibilities.
