The statement made by the Presidency of Communication's Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) on its social media account indicated that the claim of "biased penalties from RTÜK to channels," which appeared in some media outlets and was shared on social media, does not reflect the truth.
PUBLICATIONS CONTRARY TO THE PRINCIPLE OF "THE SUPREMACY OF LAW, JUSTICE, AND IMPARTIALITY"
It was stated that some media organizations have made publications contrary to the principle of "the supremacy of law, justice, and impartiality" as stated in Article 8(c) of the Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, regarding the corruption and terrorism investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB).
“PUBLICATIONS CALLING CITIZENS TO THE STREETS HAVE BEEN MADE”
The statement recorded the following: "In the mentioned publications, expressions aimed at putting judicial authorities under pressure have been used, and content that could incite hatred and hostility in society, exceeding the limits of criticism of individuals and institutions, has been included. Additionally, publications threatening national security, public order, and public safety have been made, calling citizens to the streets. For these reasons, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has decided to impose administrative sanctions on these broadcasting organizations by fulfilling its supervisory duties within the framework of the relevant legislation. Do not trust baseless claims aimed at manipulating the public."
CLAIM THAT "A YOUNG PROTESTER WAS KILLED BY THE POLICE"
On the other hand, DMM reported that the claim appearing in some international media outlets that "a young protester was killed by the police" is also not true. The statement included the expression, "There is no case of any protester losing their life as a result of police intervention during unauthorized demonstrations held in some provinces of our country." It was reminded that Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that legal action had been taken against 53 individuals for violating Law No. 2911, causing damage to public property, and resisting to prevent duty during the unauthorized demonstrations.
The statement recorded the following: "Additionally, Minister Yerlikaya has also announced that 16 of our police officers were injured as a result of the demonstrations. The interrogation processes of those detained in the corruption and terrorism investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office are ongoing. Do not trust baseless claims aimed at manipulating the international public."
