The Heimlich maneuver saved a life once again. A high school student in Isparta came face to face with death. The student, who choked on food during the break, regained health thanks to the timely and conscious 'Heimlich' intervention of the teachers.
The vital importance of first aid was once again brought to light by a concrete event. A situation that could have resulted in death was safely navigated thanks to the correct intervention within seconds.
HEALTH CONDITION GOOD
In the incident that occurred at school, a student who was having difficulty breathing regained their health thanks to the quick and conscious intervention of the teachers. The Heimlich maneuver, known to have saved lives multiple times, this time saved a student's life. After the maneuver applied by the teachers, the student's breathing returned to normal in a short time.
While the situation was brought under control before the medical teams arrived at the scene, it was reported that the student's health condition was good and that no negative developments occurred.
WHAT IS THE HEIMLICH MANEUVER?
The Heimlich maneuver is an effective first aid method applied to remove a foreign object that has entered the airway. Pressure is applied inward and upward to the area between the navel and the rib cage by standing behind the person. This pressure helps to expel the object that is blocking the airway.
The maneuver is especially applied to conscious adults and children. Different first aid techniques are preferred for infants. If the person can cough strongly, they should be allowed to cough; because coughing can help expel the obstructing object naturally. However, if the person cannot speak, cannot breathe, or cannot cough effectively, this situation indicates a life-threatening condition, and the Heimlich maneuver should be applied without delay.
During choking, the oxygen supply to the brain decreases, and this process can lead to serious consequences in a short time. Therefore, a conscious intervention made at the right time can determine the difference between life and death.
