Five workers lost their lives due to the collapse of the Yugeang Bridge under construction in Jiangsu province, China. An investigation has been launched regarding the incident. Following this accident in Yangqing, questions have arisen about the safety measures in the railway construction.
It was reported that 5 workers lost their lives due to the collapse of a railway bridge under construction in Jiangsu province in eastern China. According to Xinhua, a 95-meter section of the Yuguang Bridge, which is under construction in the Xiangshui district of Yancheng city, collapsed. While 5 workers working in the collapsed section of the bridge lost their lives, an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
IT WAS BEING BUILT AS PART OF A HIGH-SPEED RAIL LINE
The bridge, constructed by the state-owned China Railway 12th Bureau Group, was being built as part of a planned high-speed rail line between Lianyungang city in Jiangsu province and Shanghai. In China, which has made significant progress in high-speed railway infrastructure in recent years, work accidents occasionally occur due to inadequate safety measures and deficiencies in land surveys.
SIMILAR ACCIDENTS HAD OCCURRED BEFORE
In December 2024, 13 workers lost their lives due to the collapse of the ground of a railway construction in Guangdong province in southern China. In November 2025, 11 workers lost their lives when a test train collided in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province in the southwest of the country.
